Heat Pumps & Heat-Recovery Systems

Heat Pumps & Heat-Recovery Systems

Heating, cooling and hot-water solutions for hotels, hospitals, food and dairy facilities, commercial buildings and industrial processes. EVAPNEX reviews simultaneous heating and cooling requirements, available waste heat and the operating schedule before approaching equipment manufacturers for a project-specific technical offer.

Produce Useful Hot Water While Meeting Cooling Demand

When a site needs chilled water and hot water at the same time, a heat-recovery chiller or heat pump may transfer heat removed from the chilled-water circuit into the hot-water circuit instead of rejecting all of it to the ambient environment. Suitable equipment and controls depend on the required water temperatures, simultaneous load profile and available heat source.

Project Applications

Hotels & Hospitality

Hotels may require chilled water for air conditioning alongside domestic hot water for guest rooms, kitchens, laundries and swimming-pool systems. A central heat-recovery or four-pipe heat-pump arrangement can be evaluated against hourly heating and cooling demand, storage and the hygiene and delivery-temperature requirements of each water circuit.

Food, Dairy & Beverage Plants

Food-processing and dairy facilities may simultaneously need process chilled water and hot water for washing, cleaning or other permitted duties. Heat-recovery feasibility depends on production schedules, process temperatures, water quality, hygiene requirements and separation between process and utility circuits.

Industrial Waste-Heat Recovery

Heat from suitable refrigeration condensers, process-cooling loops or other recoverable streams can potentially be upgraded or redirected to useful hot-water duties. Source temperature, heat availability, target delivery temperature, fouling and the existing boiler or cooling-system integration must be checked.

Commercial Buildings & Central Plants

For buildings with varying demand, heat-recovery chillers, water-source or air-source heat pumps and four-pipe configurations can be assessed as part of a central heating and cooling system. Redundancy, heat storage, controls and seasonal performance should be considered.

Equipment Options for Technical Review

  • Heat-recovery chillers and simultaneous hot-/chilled-water configurations for sites with overlapping heating and cooling loads.
  • Air-source and water-source heat pumps for domestic or process hot-water systems, subject to site and temperature requirements.
  • Four-pipe heat-pump systems for separate heating and cooling circuits where supported by the selected manufacturer.
  • High-temperature and CO₂ heat-pump configurations for specialised duties where a verified manufacturer model matches the required temperature lift and process conditions.

Not every heat pump can deliver chilled water and high-temperature hot water simultaneously. Final temperatures, heat-source requirements, refrigerant, performance and certification are confirmed for the specific offered unit.

Energy-Saving Study: What We Check

  • Baseline plant: existing chiller and boiler/heater fuel, electricity tariff, water temperatures, annual operating hours and measured energy consumption.
  • Hourly and seasonal cooling and heating loads, including how often both demands occur together.
  • Cooling-water or heat-source inlet temperature, required hot-water delivery temperature, fluid flow and allowable pressure losses.
  • Expected heat recovered and remaining heat-rejection or supplementary-heating demand at each operating condition.
  • Plantroom or outdoor space, electrical capacity, controls/BMS interface, redundancy, local water-heating hygiene rules and installation boundaries.

Energy or carbon savings and payback must be calculated for the actual site and compared with a defined baseline; no fixed percentage saving or performance guarantee is implied.
